Alocasia Micholitziana ‘Frydek’ care

  • Also commonly referred to as Alocasia ‘Green Velvet’ and is native to Southeast Asia near the Phillipines.
  • Happiest in a well-draining soil mix with lots of organic matter. We use a well-draining soil mix containing coco chips, clay pebbles, horticultural charcoal, coarse sponge rock. We fertilize with earthworm castings, Nutricote as directed in the warmer months, and fertilize weekly with fish emulsion.

  • Prefers to stay slightly root-bound, do not worry about repotting for about a year or so unless it’s crucial.

  • This plant enjoys bright, but indirect light. Let the top layer dry out between waterings, but keep mostly moist, but never soggy.
  • Does best in 60-80°F and will grow fastest with higher humidity levels (>50%) and cannot tolerate freezing temperatures.
